Kelemen Hunor guarantees that the Mureșan government program will not include tax increases

UDMR President Kelemen Hunor categorically rejected the prospect of raising taxes and duties, saying that the party supports reducing taxation on labor and eliminating parafiscal taxes. He made the statements to Euronews Romania amid discussions about the fiscal direction of the future government.

Regarding VAT, Kelemen Hunor said that an increase is ruled out. He noted that, if economic developments allow, the UDMR even supports reducing VAT, but such a measure cannot be announced immediately because it depends on economic indicators.

The UDMR leader stressed that the same approach applies to other taxes and duties. The party is proposing the elimination of certain parafiscal taxes and a reduction in the tax burden on income from work—measures that are expected to be included in the new government’s program.

The exception would be cultural-sector taxes, such as the cultural, literary, musical, or architectural stamp duties. Kelemen Hunor explained that these contributions provide funding for creators’ associations and should therefore be maintained. He reiterated that the UDMR does not support increasing the tax burden.
