Kelemen Hunor states that Nicușor Dan is “absolutely immune to pressure”

UDMR President Kelemen Hunor says that Nicușor Dan does not change his decisions in response to political or social pressure and argues that responsibility for forming a majority and securing the government’s investiture lies with the parties and Parliament.

Speaking as a guest on Euronews, the UDMR leader said that the president is “absolutely immune to pressure” and that this is not necessarily negative, since the head of state cannot change the political direction from one day to the next depending on the requests he receives. Kelemen Hunor noted that, after a prime minister is nominated, Parliament must decide whether to grant a vote of confidence.

According to the UDMR leader, if Parliament fails to invest the government, the president can make a new nomination, while negotiations between the political parties must continue. He said the parties did not initially put forward a joint proposal for the position of prime minister, so “it is not the president’s fault.”

Kelemen Hunor called for a rapid solution, pointing out that Romania has already lost too much time without a government. He also announced that the leaders of the PNL, USR and UDMR had discussed resuming negotiations with the PSD, including a possible rotating government arrangement. The idea had been considered as early as May–June, but the parties failed to reach an agreement on which party would lead the first stage.
