UDMR President Kelemen Hunor on Thursday denied reports that he had rejected Luca Niculescu for the position of prime minister and had asked President Dan to appoint only a politician who belongs to a political party. The UDMR leader called the reports “disinformation” and “manipulation” in a Facebook post.

Kelemen Hunor also rejected reports that he had clashed with PSD and PNL leaders Sorin Grindeanu and Ilie Bolojan. He said he maintains a civilised and ongoing dialogue with both of them.

The UDMR leader stressed that a parliamentary majority can be formed without the UDMR, but his party will not support a government that includes SOS, lawmakers who have left AUR or other formations resulting from political party-hopping. He said the UDMR did not cause the majority to break up and that it cannot be rebuilt without PSD and PNL.

Kelemen Hunor also rejected speculation about interventions from Brussels, Germany or Hungary. He said Romania urgently needs a fully empowered government, clear decisions, a budget adjustment and a budget bill, amid regional instability.
