UDMR leader Kelemen Hunor said Monday evening on TVR that President Nicușor Dan cannot be accused of malice and is almost immune to political pressure. The statements were made amid the prolonged political crisis and criticism of the pace at which the head of state has handled the situation.
Kelemen Hunor said he has known Nicușor Dan for a long time and that the president’s decision-making style is more a matter of his personal way of working. According to the UDMR leader, the president takes a long time to analyze issues and does not act as quickly as some of his critics would like.
“You can’t suspect Nicușor Dan of malice,” Kelemen Hunor said, noting that it is easier to comment on a president’s decisions when you are not in his position and do not have all the information available at the presidential institution.
The UDMR leader argued that a head of state must not give in to political pressure, regardless of who exerts it. In his view, the president must set his course and follow it, without changing his decisions based on comments, public reactions or pressure of the moment.
