The leader of UDMR, Kelemen Hunor, called for calm between PSD and PNL in the context of the controversies related to the European SAFE program. He emphasized the importance of the program and requested the avoidance of politicizing the subject, mentioning that Romania does not have a well-developed defense industry. The dispute was generated by PSD's accusations, which demand that the dismissed Prime Minister, Ilie Bolojan, answer for the payments made to an international law firm involved in consulting for the SAFE program. PSD accuses a possible influence peddling and requests explanations regarding the selection of the law firm, highlighting a conflict of interest, considering that it has represented both the Government of Romania and a German supplier of military equipment. The social democrats are calling for the intervention of the competent authorities to protect the interests of the Romanian state and taxpayers.
