Before this new scandal, a similar incident took place in the Senate: PNL senator Vasile Blaga appeared naked in front of the committees after accidentally leaving his video camera on during a discussion, and his colleagues noticed him and asked him to stop the broadcast. In reports at the time, the situation was also linked to a precedent mentioned in the same context — the case of former minister Ionuț Stroe, who reportedly appeared in his underwear during an interview.
PNL Member of Parliament Ionuț Stroe announced on Thursday, November 5, that he intends to sue the journalists and individuals who published or distributed the images showing him at a beauty salon in Bucharest. The photographs were taken the previous day, when the Chamber of Deputies had a plenary session scheduled.
The controversy began after the publication of images showing the lawmaker having a manicure, and the materials were presented as evidence that he had been absent from Parliament’s proceedings. Stroe rejects the accusation and claims that the photograph was taken at around 9:25 a.m., before the debates began.
The MP states that the plenary session began at 10:04 a.m. and that at 10:16 a.m. he recorded his attendance in the Chamber of Deputies’ electronic system. He says he officially requested data regarding access to the Palace of Parliament, attendance, and the votes cast.
Stroe claims that the photograph was taken by an AUR senator and that he will also request the surveillance footage. He announced that he would take action against those who produced, interpreted, and distributed the photographs, citing defamation and the lack of consent. The lawmaker says he will make the documents public after receiving them.
