Ionuț Moșteanu, the Minister of Defense, stated that in 2023, the Romanian state's interest expenses will exceed the budget allocated to the Ministry of National Defense (MApN), which is approximately 9 billion euros, compared to 53 billion lei for interest. Moșteanu emphasized that it is essential not to cut defense revenues, considering the security challenges in the region, including Russia's activities. He proposed a detailed analysis of the expenditures of each institution to prioritize necessary investments. He also mentioned that, despite the diversity of opinions within the governing coalition, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan manages to maintain a correct direction in budget management. Moșteanu avoided commenting on the PSD opposition regarding salary cuts in the public sector but stressed the importance of careful resource management in the context of current challenges.
