The interim Prime Minister and leader of PNL Ilie Bolojan declared on Monday, after consultations with Nicușor Dan, that the liberals will not support a technocratic government that also includes PSD.
"We have completed the consultations with Mr. President. We have clarified our position. We are after a motion of censure initiated by PSD which practically brought down the government that also included PSD. PNL has a weight of 15 percent in Parliament, and in this context, our position is that PNL will no longer support a government and will not participate in a government that will also include PSD; we will not support a technocratic government that will also have PSD. Under the conditions in which PSD will be in power, PNL will be in opposition. The position is not taken from a political calculation but from a legitimate interest for our country," Bolojan stated.
Bolojan argues that the political world has made several mistakes, including creating false expectations.
"It created expectations that cannot be fulfilled, exceeding Romania's budgetary possibilities. Many citizens have been disappointed, and the possibility of illusion sellers has been created. It was a major error. The governments, instead of maintaining budgetary balances, have gone into deficits. The second mistake was the large coalitions, which have only managed things but have not made the necessary reforms. The third error was that important positions in companies were filled by people who only come to extract rents. PNL has not repeated the same mistakes; we have not created expectations, we have said what is possible and what is not, PSD has continued, fleeing from responsibility. We have sought to make reforms, we have done everything possible to create conditions for development, instead of others doing this, they have gone with the handbrake on. This government fell because it tried to block waste," Ilie Bolojan stated.
He added: "If we were to continue such a coalition with PSD again, we would only continue the mistakes of the past period. We will try to do what is needed in this interim form."
The PNL delegation consisted of Ilie Bolojan, Dan Motreanu, Cătălin Predoiu, Ciprian Ciucu, and Adrian Veștea.
On Monday, information emerged that one of the options for a technocratic prime minister that Nicușor Dan would consider is Delia Velculescu, who has a career of over 20 years at the IMF.
