Sorin Grindeanu convenes the Permanent Bureau of the Chamber of Deputies in an extraordinary session, starting from July 27

Sorin Grindeanu, the leader of the PSD, announced the convening of the Permanent Bureau of the Chamber of Deputies for an extraordinary session starting on July 27, with urgent measures on the agenda such as extending the 9% VAT for housing, interventions on fuel prices, and unblocking hiring in hospitals. The main project aims to extend the deadline until October 1, 2026, for purchasing homes with reduced VAT, following the cyber attack that affected the National Agency for Cadastre.

The PSD amendment does not apply to new contracts, but to those that already meet the legal conditions. Grindeanu argues that the measure will not affect the budget, as transactions are already calculated with a 9% VAT. However, interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan opposes this initiative, citing the budget deficit.

On the PSD agenda is also a mechanism for compensating fuel prices and unblocking positions in hospitals. The projects need to be adopted quickly to come into effect before the current deadline expires.
