The president of USR, Dominic Fritz, stated that his party will not be part of a government with PSD if the social democrats vote for a motion of censure alongside AUR.
“USR has drawn a very clear red line. We have a decision from the Political Committee, which we have reiterated: if PSD votes for the fall of the government with the votes of AUR, then we no longer see a way to renegotiate. Until then, we are in a democracy, we go to consultations, we discuss, we have dialogue,” said Dominic Fritz.
Fritz emphasized that PSD has already voted for a simple motion against the Minister of Environment, Diana Buzoianu, and postponed the vote for the Ombudsman, accusing PSD of a double game.
In a press conference, he stated that USR will not accept to collaborate with PSD under the conditions in which it continues to vote against its own Executive. Additionally, Fritz mentioned that it is not a viable option to rely on the votes of extremists, highlighting the risks of a slide towards an illiberal zone.
“No one wants to rely on the votes of extremists, that is very clear. The danger of Romania sliding towards an illiberal zone is real. But we must take into account the realities in Parliament. That is why we are starting these consultations and negotiations,” added the president of USR.
He proposed that PSD reevaluate its position, considering the economic deficit generated during the Ciolacu-Ciucă government.
