<p>The mayor of Timișoara, Dominic Fritz, was elected president of USR with 67.2% of the votes, in a ballot attended by 10,914 members. The vote was validated for the June 21 congress, and Fritz outlined future challenges and opportunities. Violeta Alexandru, who received 22% of the vote, was placed second. Nine out of the original 12 candidates were validated, and the USR statutes only provide for a second round if no candidate had obtained a majority in the first round.
