Daniel Băluță, the mayor of Sector 4 and the PSD candidate for the General Mayor of Bucharest, has initiated an administrative process to address the heating issue in the Capital. In a press conference, he proposed the merger of the companies Elcen and Termoenergetica, arguing that this will allow for the rapid realization of necessary investments and will reduce the price of gigacalories. Băluță emphasized that the heating system is facing significant losses and high costs, and the merger could improve the infrastructure and subsidy policy.
He mentioned that the City Hall subsidizes 75% of the price of gigacalories, but many citizens cannot afford to pay their bills. Băluță proposed differentiated rates based on income to help vulnerable individuals. The Minister of Energy, Bogdan-Gruia Ivan, supported the proposal, stating that the merger is essential for a functional and accessible heating system. Ivan explained that the merger process will require a Government decision and an official assessment, but expressed confidence that the solution will transform the heating system in Bucharest into one worthy of a European capital.
