Nicu Ștefănuță, independent MEP and Vice-President of the European Parliament, stated that in the next two months there will be two important votes on the Mercosur Agreement. He emphasized that the majority in the European Parliament is very slim, which will lead to fierce competition for votes.

The first vote will take place next week and will assess the legality of the agreement, including compliance with environmental and labor standards. The second vote, scheduled for next month, will focus on the content of the agreement. Ștefănuță mentioned that his group, the Greens, traditionally opposes trade agreements as they can affect environmental standards.

This politicized situation of the agreement has generated intense discussions among the parties, being a topic already well-known in the European Parliament.
