Ciprian Ciucu, liberal leader, stated that the decision to vote for the Integrity Law was made in the internal forums of PNL, although many members disagreed with the normative act. He emphasized that he does not identify with the party's decision, but accepted it. Ciucu explained that PNL takes on the objective of balancing Romania's budget and maintaining European funds, but also expresses doubt that saving money justifies moral compromise. He also mentioned that they are not happy with the created situation and will support the amendment of the controversial provision. The vote in the Senate was favorable, with 106 votes in favor, and the Fritz amendment, which provides for the loss of mandate for elected officials in conflict of interest, was included. Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan acknowledged that the PSD initiative is immoral, but emphasized the importance of the vote for fulfilling the PNRR milestone.

"I do not identify with my party's decision. Obviously, I do not disavow the party. The vote did not come about as PNL understood with PSD to vote against Fritz. That is a false track, completely false. There was a vote in the National Political Bureau, which was given. I saw that this was the direction and I failed it," Ciucu stated on Wednesday at Euronews.
