The CCR postponed the decision on the referral from President Nicușor Dan regarding the law on the use of the beaches of the Black Sea to March 4.

The Constitutional Court of Romania has decided to postpone the ruling on the request of President Nicușor Dan, who contests the legality of the amendments made to the Government Emergency Ordinance no. 19/2006 regarding the use of the Black Sea beach. The objection of unconstitutionality will be discussed on March 4. The contested law allows local authorities in the coastal localities of the Black Sea to receive up to 20% of the beach area used for tourism in free use. Nicușor Dan argues that these authorities do not have the capacity to receive such attributions, contrary to constitutional provisions, as they are not public utility institutions. The state is the holder of the property rights over the beaches, and the proposed legislative changes are considered inconsistent with the Constitution.
