The Constitutional Court has postponed the ruling on the referrals regarding the integrity law.

The Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) decided to postpone the ruling on the challenges regarding the law amending the normative acts in the field of integrity to Monday, August 17.

President Nicușor Dan contested the law, arguing that it was adopted in violation of constitutional norms. The clarity of the normative text is criticized, especially the phrase "the person who has relationships similar to those of spouses," which extends the obligation to declare assets and interests.

Nicușor Dan emphasizes that the law does not establish objective criteria for identifying relevant emotional relationships, leaving the affected individuals to self-assess. It is also argued that the norm affects the right to private life and introduces a contravention responsibility for third parties, which contradicts the principle of personal accountability. The criticisms also include discrimination among dignitaries, depending on the nature of personal relationships. A similar challenge was recently submitted by several senators.
