Constantin Toma, mayor of the municipality of Buzău (PSD), urged Social Democratic lawmakers on Tuesday to vote on Wednesday in favor of the government proposed by designated Prime Minister Siegfried Mureșan, in order to end the political crisis that has lasted for several months.
Toma told Agerpres that Mureșan is “a capable person” and can lead Romania during the current difficult period, marked by political, economic and geopolitical problems. The mayor said the country needs a stable government and parliamentary parties to assume responsibility.
The mayor of Buzău acknowledged that he is not optimistic about the chances of the new Cabinet being invested, given that PSD and AUR leaders Sorin Grindeanu and George Simion have announced that their parties will not support the government. Toma nevertheless said that PSD, the party he considers responsible for triggering the crisis, should vote to resolve the deadlock.
Parliament’s plenary session will convene on Wednesday to vote on the government program and the list of ministers. A total of 233 votes are required for the government to be invested.
