Dismissed Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan said on Wednesday evening that Parliament’s rejection of the Government led by Siegfried Mureșan does not represent a failure, but the completion of a constitutional procedure. The statement was made after President Nicușor Dan described the vote as “yet another failure of Parliament.”
Bolojan argued that the appointment was handled responsibly, and that the Mureșan Government fulfilled its mandate by presenting its program and vision for the period ahead. According to the interim prime minister, assuming office entails completing the entire procedure, regardless of the outcome of the parliamentary vote.
He said that the rejection of the Government opens a new political stage. After two designated governments have found themselves in the same situation, the President of Romania has, in Bolojan’s view, the possibility of quickly appointing a new prime minister or considering calling early elections.
The dismissed prime minister also said that the program presented sought to keep Romania on a stable course and avoid wasting the efforts made in recent years.
