Traian Băsescu, former president of Romania, stated that the current president Nicușor Dan must act quickly to appoint a new prime minister, emphasizing that, in the event that he does not obtain the necessary votes in Parliament, he will be able to exert pressure for early elections. Băsescu believes that Nicușor Dan should use this opportunity to resolve the political crisis, mentioning that he is not obliged to dissolve Parliament immediately. He criticized Dan's statements regarding the exclusion of early elections, considering that they limit constitutional options.
Băsescu emphasized that the responsibility of finding a majority falls to the designated prime minister, not the president, and that he must negotiate with the parties to obtain the necessary support within the 10-day deadline.
