Cătălin Silegeanu participated in Sebastian Burduja’s hearings, violating the boycott decided by AUR for the procedures concerning the Mureșan Government

AUR Senator Cătălin Silegeanu attended the hearings held by the joint parliamentary committees for Sebastian Burduja, although the party leadership had decided to boycott all procedures concerning the Government proposed by Siegfried Mureșan. According to his own statement, Silegeanu was the only AUR parliamentarian present at the hearings.

The senator explained that he chose to exercise his mandate and ask the ministers questions, even though the party’s decision was for AUR parliamentarians to attend neither the committees nor the joint plenary session. “We have a duty to the people, and I have a responsibility as a senator,” Silegeanu declared.

He said that he was not afraid of possible repercussions and that he had informed his colleagues of his decision. They allegedly told him to do what he considered right. Silegeanu also rejected the possibility of leaving the AUR parliamentary group, stating that he has voters “behind him.”

The boycott was announced on Monday by AUR leader George Simion, who stated that the party would be absent from both the hearings and the plenary vote on the Mureșan Government. In the same context, Simion once again threatened President Nicușor Dan with suspension if he does not call early elections. The political turmoil was preceded by the launch of the platform suspeND.ro, intended for efforts to suspend the head of state.
