George Simion announces that AUR will not vote for the Siegfried Mureșan Government

AUR President George Simion announced on Monday that the party’s lawmakers would not vote for the Siegfried Mureșan Government, despite what he said were pressures exerted on the party. Simion conveyed the message after AUR deputies left the Chamber of Deputies’ plenary chamber.

The AUR leader reaffirmed his support for Călin Georgescu on the same day that the former presidential candidate was stopped by prosecutors in traffic and taken to his home in Mogoșoaia to participate in searches. Georgescu is the subject of a fraud investigation.

George Simion accused the authorities of committing abuses and said that Romania is “a dictatorship,” arguing that any party member could be the next target. Subsequently, AUR deputies protested in the plenary session over the way Călin Georgescu was treated. The lawmakers gathered in front of the rostrum holding placards reading “Stop the political police!” Simion said that the party would continue to stand by Georgescu.
