The president of AUR, George Simion, announced that his party is ready to take over the government after the fall of the Bolojan Government, but on the condition that the appointment of the prime minister returns to AUR:
“We can assume a government as long as AUR is accepted to appoint the prime minister. According to the constitution, the first party must appoint a majority, after which AUR will appoint a prime minister.”
Simion emphasized that he will not participate in the official consultations at Cotroceni if President Nicușor Dan does not invite him and in the informal discussions leading up to it. He stated that AUR will not support a prime minister from PSD and that he is willing to correct the mistakes made by the Bolojan Government. Simion criticized the organization of informal discussions without AUR's participation, considering that he will not accept to be used as a "useful idiot" in formal consultations that do not respect the Constitution. He demanded that AUR be genuinely involved in the decision-making process, not just at the conclusion of negotiations.
“As long as we are not summoned by the President of Romania to the real consultations to find solutions to exit the crisis, we will not be useful idiots. We will not go to formal consultations to simulate respect for the Constitution. If the formal and real consultations are held with the second party in the country after the elections in December, we will participate, but to be invited to the table after the deal is made, under the conditions in which they agree behind the scenes, no, thank you,” Simion stated.
