Petrișor Peiu, the leader of the AUR senatorial group, states that early elections represent the only rational and democratic solution to overcome the current political crisis.
He believes that the formation of a minority government would validate the "deeply undemocratic behavior" of President Nicușor Dan. Peiu emphasizes that a country with Romania's problems cannot survive with minority governments for an extended period, warning that such solutions will exacerbate the economic crisis and the international prestige of the country. He also criticizes the way Nicușor Dan came to power, mentioning the cancellation of the 2024 elections.
Peiu emphasizes that AUR will not support Sorin Grindeanu's proposals, considering the party's exclusion from the government.
"Mr. Grindeanu needs to receive a lesson: you cannot publicly announce that you exclude AUR from the government and then ask, under the cover of darkness, for votes from AUR. AUR must not give, in the current political crisis, any votes for PSD or for Nicușor Dan, just as it must not give any votes for PNL, USR, or UDMR. AUR must only be consistent with itself and maintain its policy of returning to democracy. Early elections" said Peiu.
