Whether one likes it or not, AUR has an exceptional strategic coherence. As an opposition party, it maneuvered perfectly until it managed to bring down a government through a motion of censure, despite having only 20% of the seats in Parliament. That it used the context and other parties is secondary. As an opposition party, it did the work of an opposition party.

Subsequently, it announced that it will NOT enter the plenary at any potential moment of voting for a new government, which means not only that it continues to position itself in the Opposition, but it forces the other parties to clarify their position. From this perspective, AUR is taking all the correct steps to electorally capitalize on all past, present, and future frustrations and discontent until 2028.

A possible chance for AUR not to march alone in the opposition towards the 50% threshold would be to have another major party that can provide serious opposition. Whether it is PNL led by a popular leader, PSD led by a popular leader, or USR, that is another story.

And this is not just about AUR. I sincerely believe that, for the sake of the health of our democratic regime, no political party in Romania should have over 50%. The still unsolidified democratic political culture of our political elites and not only makes the management of an almost total power risky.
