TikTok has announced the implementation of new age verification measures in the European Union, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, to restrict access for children under 13 years old. In the coming weeks, the platform will use age prediction technology, combined with human moderators, to identify accounts belonging to children. This technology will analyze profile information and user activity to detect suspicious accounts. Identified accounts will be flagged for further verification by a human moderator, who will decide whether they should be blocked. Affected users will be notified and directed to an informational page. TikTok states that, in accordance with its terms of use, it removes approximately 6 million child accounts monthly, adhering to data protection standards established in collaboration with the Data Protection Commission.
