On July 26, residents in the southeastern US spotted a fireball in the sky, a meteorite that struck a home in McDonough, Georgia. It created a hole in the roof and was recovered in fragments, some of which were transported to the University of Georgia for analysis. The meteorite is estimated to be about 4.56 billion years old and is a member of the chondrite class, with a depleted metal content. Scientists believe it is a fragment of a larger asteroid that broke off after an impact. Scott Harris will publish a paper on its composition, and the fragments will be on display at the Tellus Science Museum.
