A Delta Air Lines plane, operating a flight from Atlanta, was struck by a firework while in the landing phase at Chicago Midway International Airport on Saturday evening, on the Fourth of July.
The pilot of the aircraft (flight 1076) reported the incident to air traffic controllers immediately after the impact, stating that he heard a loud bang: "Tower, a firework just hit our plane... I heard a bang in the plane, so we will need to check the aircraft after we get to the gate." At that time, the plane was at an altitude of about 60 meters.
Fortunately, the incident did not require an emergency landing, and the crew managed to safely bring the aircraft to the ground. No injuries were reported, and the plane was subjected to a technical inspection to assess any damage.
