The Polish authorities are investigating an incident that occurred Thursday morning near the border with Ukraine, where a crater approximately 10 meters in diameter and charred metal fragments were discovered in the locality of Tarnawa-Kolonia.
The area was quickly isolated by police and firefighters, and the army sent a helicopter to conduct aerial checks. Authorities are investigating the nature of the object that crashed, considering that the explosion took place in the context of a massive Russian attack on Ukraine.
According to Captain Tomasz Stachyra, spokesperson for the firefighters in the Lublin Voivodeship, no casualties have been reported.
The incident occurred during a new large-scale air attack launched by Russia on Ukraine. The attacks targeted the western part of the country, far from the border with Russia, and air raid alerts were issued in most regions. Poland, a NATO member state, has scrambled its fighter jets and activated air defense systems as a precautionary measure.
