NASA conducted the first medical evacuation from the International Space Station (ISS) when an astronaut needed medical care, leaving the station along with three crew colleagues. Astronauts Mike Fincke, Zena Cardman, Oleg Platonov, and Kimiya Yui are traveling with a SpaceX Dragon capsule and are expected to land in the Pacific, near San Diego, on Thursday morning. The evacuation decision shortens their mission by more than a month. Although officials did not disclose the identity of the sick astronaut, they confirmed that he is stable and well cared for. NASA emphasized that the health issue was not an emergency and did not affect the station's operations. Currently, one American astronaut and two Russians remain aboard the ISS, and NASA is planning to launch a new crew in February.
