Meta, the company controlled by Mark Zuckerberg, has concluded a billion-dollar agreement with chipmaker AMD, which could allow it to obtain a stake of up to 10% in the company. The agreement led to a 14% increase in AMD shares in pre-market trading, with the company having a market capitalization of approximately 320 billion dollars. Meta will purchase customized chips with a total capacity of 6 gigawatts, in the context of increasing investments in artificial intelligence. The agreement includes a performance-based conditional right, allowing Meta to buy up to 160 million AMD shares at a symbolic price. The first deliveries will take place in the second half of the year, and the right expires in February 2031. This transaction structure reflects an industry trend, similar to a recent arrangement between AMD and OpenAI. Meta intends to double its spending on AI infrastructure, reaching 135 billion dollars.
