The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that repairs to the Druzhba pipeline, which transports Russian oil to Central and Eastern Europe, cannot be completed quickly, despite pressures from the European Union and protests from Hungary.

Oil deliveries to Hungary and Slovakia have been suspended since January 27, after Ukraine reported damages caused by Russian attacks. Zelensky emphasized the extent of the destruction and the ongoing risks for the Ukrainian personnel involved in the repairs. Tensions have risen following accusations from Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who claims that Ukraine is using the pipeline shutdown as political pressure. At the same time, Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure have intensified, severely affecting gas production capacity and causing severe power outages.
