The eruption started around 4am and generated seismic activity on the Reykjanes peninsula, known for its recent eruptions. Lava is flowing from a 700-1,000-meter wide fissure, but poses no threat to infrastructure. Tourists at the Blue Lagoon were quickly evacuated, but authorities have assured locals there is no danger. This eruption joins a series of volcanic activity in the area that began in 2021.
