The capital of Austria, Vienna, will close several museums dedicated to famous composers this year, including Franz Schubert's apartment and Johann Strauss's house, as a result of budget cuts for culture. The director of the museums in Vienna, Matti Bunzl, announced that these closures are part of a broader set of austerity measures, which also includes an almost 30% increase in public transport ticket prices. The budget allocated to culture will decrease from 29.7 million euros in 2025 to 28.4 million euros this year. The closure of the affected museums will take about two years, and Schubert's birthplace will be closed for renovation until 2028.
