The United States has announced a trade agreement with the United Kingdom that eliminates tariffs on pharmaceutical products and medical technologies. In return, the United Kingdom will increase the percentage of the NHS budget allocated to medications and will pay 25% more for new drugs. The agreement aims to stimulate investment and innovation in both countries, according to U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer. A change in the assessment of therapy value by NICE is also expected, which will modify the threshold used to determine the effectiveness of medications. The U.S. has pressured the UK to pay more for American drugs, and the pharmaceutical industry has expressed dissatisfaction with the conditions in the United Kingdom. London has committed to reducing the reimbursement rate to 15% starting in 2026.
