The United States is threatening to suspend the mechanism through which Ukraine purchases American weapons, as well as the exchange of intelligence, in order to pressure Kyiv to stop deep strikes against Russia’s energy infrastructure and oil refineries. The information was reported Sunday by the Financial Times, which cited European officials.
According to them, American representatives contacted European capitals and authorities in Kyiv to demand an end to the attacks. The message allegedly included threats to halt the PURL mechanism (Prioritized Requirements List for Ukraine), used to purchase American weapons intended for Ukraine.
An official quoted by the publication said that U.S. defense representatives asked their European counterparts to contact Kyiv and the other governments in Europe. Reuters was unable to independently verify the information, and the White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The report comes after President Donald Trump announced an “energy ceasefire” between Russia and Ukraine, which he said would take effect immediately. President Volodymyr Zelensky, however, said that he was awaiting the details of the agreement.
