American President Donald Trump announced that he has the "obligation" to sue the BBC for editing a speech presented during the Panorama program, considering that the network misled the public. His lawyer, Alejandro Brito, threatened legal action for defamation, seeking a retraction and damages of 1 billion dollars. Trump's comments came after the BBC acknowledged that the way his speech was edited gave the impression that he had called for violence, in the context of the events at the Capitol on January 6, 2021. Samir Shah, the president of the BBC, apologized for this error, which led to the resignation of the general director and the executive director of the news department.
