Donald Trump has resumed making unfounded allegations of election fraud in the United States, just two days after saying he would accept the results of the midterm election. The Republican president presented no evidence, but declared that the election had been “so rigged” that its scale would be impossible to imagine.
The statements come amid a historic defeat for Republicans. Democrats are projected to win at least 250 of the 435 seats in the House of Representatives, with an advantage of at least 65 seats. They also won seven Senate seats and are expected to control at least 54 of the 100 seats.
Vote counting continues in approximately 20 districts, while the results in Alaska and Mississippi were not yet final. In Alaska, Trump challenged the situation in the Senate race, where Republican candidate Dan Sullivan is affected by the presence of a namesake on the ballots.
The Democrats’ victory would allow them to block federal appointments and launch congressional investigations into the Trump administration. Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries has promised to reduce the cost of living and limit executive power. On the Republican side, Ron DeSantis described the result as an unprecedented disappearance of the party in numerous regions, while Vice President JD Vance publicly distanced himself from Trump, pointing to the war in Iran as one of the causes of the defeat.
