Donald Trump indicated that he will not accept Russia's offer to extend the New START treaty, which limits the deployment of strategic nuclear weapons, thus allowing it to expire on February 5. In an interview with the New York Times, Trump stated: "If it expires, it expires," suggesting that he will seek a better agreement. This decision raises concerns among supporters of arms control, who fear that the US and Russia will deploy nuclear warheads without restrictions. Although Trump has previously expressed a desire to maintain the limits set in the treaty, he emphasized that China, with its expanding nuclear arsenal, should be included in a future agreement. Beijing has rejected this proposal, arguing that its arsenal is much smaller compared to that of the US and Russia.
