In a recent statement, Donald Trump claimed that he is 'more or less determined' regarding his actions towards Venezuela, a state accused by the U.S. of supporting drug trafficking. During a flight to his residence in Florida, Trump mentioned the progress made in preventing the infiltration of drugs into the United States. Washington has mobilized naval and air forces near Latin America, conducting operations against ships suspected of drug trafficking, which have led to the destruction of 21 vessels and at least 80 deaths.
Although Trump has authorized covert CIA operations in Venezuela and referred to possible strikes, he has avoided declaring an open war. Caracas accuses the U.S. of using the fight against drugs as a pretext to change the regime and control oil resources. In the context of rising tensions, Venezuela announced the massive deployment of its military forces in response to the arrival of the American aircraft carrier Gerald Ford.
