American President Donald Trump stated that the United States is "ready and willing" to offer aid to Venezuela, after two major earthquakes, with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, struck the country on Wednesday.
These earthquakes caused significant destruction, including collapsed buildings in Caracas, and interim president Delcy Rodriguez declared a state of emergency, closing the airport in the capital. Although an official death toll has not been released, Trump emphasized the severity of the situation, mentioning the horrifying number of casualties.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the initial earthquake occurred at a depth of 21.9 km, followed by a second earthquake at a depth of 10 km, generating approximately twenty aftershocks. The USGS warned that the damage will be significant, and the death toll could be difficult to estimate.
