Donald Trump announced that Russia will immediately begin delivering diesel to the United States and the global market following a discussion with President Vladimir Putin. The information was conveyed by the American leader in a message published on the Truth Social platform and reported by the Associated Press.
According to Trump, the first shipment will exceed 300,000 tonnes of diesel and will be delivered immediately. The announced schedule calls for another 500,000 tonnes in November, followed shortly afterward by an additional one million tonnes. Russia is subsequently expected to supply a further three-million-tonne consignment of fuel.
The American president claims that the deal, combined with the United States’ control of the Strait of Hormuz, will lead to a rapid decline in diesel prices in the US and globally. The announcement represents a shift from the policy adopted one month ago, when Trump signed into law a sweeping package of sanctions against Russia.
The measures officially target Russian officials, banks and the “shadow fleet” used to evade restrictions. The law allows tariffs of up to 100% to be imposed on imports from countries that are among the main buyers of Russian oil and gas, and expands sanctions against Iran.
