The incident took place on Tuesday at Milan-Bergamo airport, when a 35-year-old Italian man threw himself into the engine of a plane taking off. Authorities believe it was a suicide attempt. The airport was closed for two hours and flights were suspended, causing delays and diversions. The man was not a tourist or airport employee and lived nearby.
