This has led to an estimate of over 40 million foreign tourists for the entire year 2025, surpassing the previous record of 36.87 million from 2024. Significant increases have been observed among tourists from South Korea, Taiwan, and the United States, while the growth of visitors from mainland China has slowed. Relations between Japan and China have soured following comments from the Japanese Prime Minister regarding a possible military intervention in the event of an attack on Taiwan, which provoked negative reactions from Beijing. Despite these tensions, Japanese tourism continues to grow, with the government's goal of attracting 60 million foreign visitors annually by 2030.
