Three individuals associated with Super Micro Computer, including a co-founder, are accused by U.S. authorities of facilitating the illegal introduction of American AI technology into China, valued at at least $2.5 billion, violating export restrictions.

The U.S. Department of Justice announced that prosecutors have charged Yih-Shyan Liaw, Ruei-Tsang Chang, and Ting-Wei Sun, who allegedly organized a system through which servers produced in the U.S. were sent to Taiwan and then repackaged in other Southeast Asian countries before reaching China. Authorities claim that the suspects attempted to conceal the operation by using fake servers for inspections and by moving labels from the actual equipment. In April and May 2025, servers with AI technology valued at over $500 million were redirected to

China. Liaw and Sun have been arrested, while Chang remains a fugitive.

Super Micro Computer stated that it is not charged in this case and that it has cooperated with authorities.
