Although President Donald Trump estimated that the war in Iran would last only four weeks, the conflict continues after nearly six months, and the shipping route for trade with the region remains blocked.

General Dan Caine, the Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, believes that the war has reached a crossroads and is seeking solutions for exiting the conflict. Caine discussed with the president's advisors the prospects of the war and the limits of military options, emphasizing that air power has restrictions. He warned that a military escalation could have negative consequences. While Trump has been reluctant to deploy ground troops, Caine and other officials believe that a decisive victory would require such an operation, but no one supports such a radical action. Efforts are focused on finding a way to de-escalate that would allow for a symbolic victory without blocking diplomatic solutions.
