According to Kyiv Post, the Trump administration has announced the withdrawal of approximately 3,000 troops from Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, and Slovakia, starting in December. This move is seen as a first step, and U.S. officials have indicated that further reductions will follow. Critics in Congress, both from Democrats and Republicans, warn that this decision could encourage Russia and undermine NATO unity. Congressman Mike Turner and Senator Jeanne Shaheen have expressed concerns about the impact of these reductions on European security and the U.S. commitment to allies. Daniel Fried, a former diplomat, characterized the reduction as more of a bureaucratic maneuver than a coherent strategy, emphasizing that although the number of troops withdrawn is small, the signal sent is negative.
