The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, declared Wednesday morning from Ankara, where the NATO summit is taking place, that he does not see at this moment a risk regarding the withdrawal of American troops from Europe, after the US President, Donald Trump, once again expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of support in the conflict with Iran and the tensions regarding defense spending within the transatlantic alliance.

"Last year's summit in The Hague was an attempt to rebalance the security contributions between the US and its allies. We are on the right track for balancing. Part of the contribution that is quantified in money is also the presence of American troops in Europe and of course this will be a discussion in the short, medium, and long term. However, by the fact that there is an explicit mention of the Russian threat, I at this moment do not see a risk of withdrawal of American troops from the eastern flank," said Nicușor Dan, according to HotNews, in a press conference.

The comments of the President of Romania come after Donald Trump launched new threats regarding the withdrawal of troops from Europe.

"Greenland was, in my opinion, and remains something that should be under the control of the United States, not Denmark. And when they did not agree, after all the money we spent to help them in their relationship with Russia, we should not spend that money, we could withdraw all our soldiers from Europe. As you probably have noticed, Europe is a very different place than it was 20 years ago. Very different. And they need to be attentive to immigration and energy.
