The American government has sufficient funds to support the war alongside Israel against Iran, but will request additional funding from Congress to ensure the army's supply in the future, said Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. During the 'Meet the Press' broadcast, Bessent ruled out tax increases to fund the war, in the context where the Pentagon has requested an additional 200 billion dollars to its 900 billion dollar budget for the current fiscal year.

The opposition in Congress to this additional funding is strong, including from Democrats and some Republicans. Bessent emphasized that President Trump has strengthened the military and that it is necessary to continue military actions against Iran, mentioning the destruction of Iranian air and naval forces. Trump has threatened attacks on Iranian power plants if the Strait of Hormuz is not fully open, and Iran has warned that it will respond if threats materialize.
