The American Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, announced that the United States will not allow any cases of Ebola to enter their territory, in the context of the epidemic in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
During a government meeting, Rubio emphasized the efforts of the American government to limit the crisis in the affected countries and to monitor possible cases of infection. In this regard, the U.S. intends to open a quarantine center in Kenya, primarily for Americans who may be exposed to the Ebola virus. This center will provide quality care, avoiding the risks of a long journey to the United States.
An infected American citizen has been hospitalized in Berlin, and American authorities have begun redirecting travelers from the DRC, Uganda, and South Sudan to airports for screening.
So far, the WHO has reported over 1,000 suspected cases of Ebola in the DRC, with 223 deaths, but it is estimated that the actual number of cases could be higher.
