On Friday, the United States and the European Union signed a cooperation plan in Washington, aimed at strengthening supply chains for critical minerals, essential for advanced technologies and the military industry. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and European Commissioner for Trade Maros Sefcovic emphasized the importance of this agreement in the context of China's market dominance.
The plan provides for collaboration in areas such as stabilizing prices, subsidies, promoting investments, and establishing common standards for mining and recycling. These measures are intended to address the risks associated with the concentration of resources in certain regions. The agreement follows another partnership signed in February, aimed at countering Chinese competition in the field of critical minerals. The EU has learned from the pandemic crisis the importance of diversifying supply sources and has sought new partners, signing agreements with Japan, Australia, and Canada.
